In the field of language and communication there are known challenges for neurodivergent individuals. Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders that impacts approximately 1 in 14 children and persists into adulthood.
The exact causes of the brain differences that lead to DLD are unknown but general cause is complex interactions between genes and the environment on brain development. It interferes with learning, understanding and using language. It affects a student’s ability to speak, listen, read and write.
Building a better understanding of these impacts will assist in adapting communication to better connect creating more inclusive and empathic environments.
