Concurrent Session: The Silent Suffering of Alexithymia: Lived Experience And Strategies To Support
Presenting In Person
As a late-diagnosed, Autistic, ADHD woman, I learnt about Alexithymia (inability to identify and describe emotions) and low registration at 27 years of age. Demonstrating strong characteristics associated with both constructs, I was finally able to understand how these ways of being had impacted and contributed to my life story. This discovery led to actively developing new ways of understanding and communicating with others and advocating for better recognition and understanding for individuals experiencing the same. By providing lived experience from an Autistic person who is highly relatable to the audience, I hope to assist in further educating professionals, and increase empathy and understanding when working with neurodivergent individuals.
